A Sinking Feeling

Someone was scratching behind David’s ears. It felt really, really nice. He yawned and stretched, and then he opened his eyes.

“Owen!” he barked, jumping to his feet at the sight of his best friend. “Hi!”

“Shhhh!” Owen looked in all directions, even though they were pretty well hidden in the nook beneath the spiral slide. “Not so loud!”

David lowered his voice. “Bandit and I have been having the best time! We played in the pantry! We swam in the sink! Mr. Bruce was chasing us, but we got away!”
